Upstate Mothers of Multiples Club August 2008 Meeting

On Thursday night, August 21st, I arrived at the YWCA around 7:00 pm for our monthly meeting of the multiples club. When I arrived, a few others were already there, like Leah Howard and Amy Dishner. Others were soon to follow and before long we had a great crowd. We started the meeting with the normal club business, talked about the upcoming consignment sale, and then took a vote on officially changing our name from the Greenville Mothers of Multiples Club to the Upstate Mothers of Multiples Club. We have been talking about this for a little while now and since we have so many members from various areas in the Upstate, we thought it was a great idea. Once the vote passes, the floor was officially handed off to Nathalie Smith, who did the presentation for "Member of the Year". She read all of the nominations and had those people stand up. For the final one, she announced the "Mother of the Year" was Jenn Osborne who was nominated by several new members and moms in need that she had helped. All the nominees were presented with a small gift card and then Jenn received a $100 gift card. She was very well deserving!!!

After Mom of the Year stuff was done, Lisa officially handed the presidency and the floor over to Leah. Leah then went on to present Lisa with a gift card to thank her for her work as president. After that, we moved on to the changing over board positions.

First we started with the outgoing board promising to support the new board and then we went on to the new board promising to server the club in their new position. I guess since I went from treasurer, to treasurer, I need to support myself =)

After the new board was installed, we all chatted for a little while and then headed downtown to Wild Wings for the after the meeting meeting.

Mange the dog

This evening after the little ones went to bed, John decided to go out for a ride on his street bike. When he got back, he came inside and asked me to meet him in the back with the cat food. I though this was very strange and immediately thought he brought home a dog after i had been saying we didn't need one with all that is going on in our lives. Lets just say I was right. While he was out riding, he had gone to Piedmont. On the side of the road, he happen to come across 3 puppies on the side of the road that had been abandoned and abused. It was really sad to see =(... Another person stopped also and was going to try to get the others. John got the only one he could fit on the bike and rode home with it down 85. He said he got quite a few looks. When he brought it in the back, it looked very pitiful and we immediately started with trying to feed it since it was obviously starving. Our neighbors from down the street, Niel and Mary, had seen John ride in with it and came down to check things out. They are big animal lovers and actually helped bring us some cream for his back that was all torn up because someone had poured something on the litter, and the dog had open wounds on its back. After getting it fed, we proceeded to bathe it and then put the cream on him. Due to his place, John started calling him mange. I tried to lobby for another name, but it didn't stick. After a while, him and John went to bed int he play room. According to John, it was a long first night. The next day, John took him to Dr. McPhell (our vet for June) and had him checked out. Dr. PcPhell said he did not have mange, just to keep it clean and the cream on and try to get him to gain some weight and in better shape before shots. I thought Mange was going to be rescued and then "free to a good home", but I reluctantly agreed to out him on a two week probational period. Needless to say, all the kids and John fell for him and it was going well, so we now have Mange the dog, or better said, Mange the mutt.

Emily's Moving Up to the Next Class Party at Palmetto Prep

On Wednesday afternoon, August 13th, I made my way over to Palmetto Prep around 2:30. Since this was the last week Emily's classmates would all be together before kids moved up into the other building for the older pre-k class, they were having a "Moving Up" party. When I arrived, Mom was there along with some of the other parents. Emily was having a great time. Since it was gymnastics day, she had on her leotard and told me all about what she had done in gymnastics. It was getting close to time for the kids to eat. The night before, Emily and I made cupcakes with pink icing and sprinkles for her party. She is really growing up, because this time when we made cupcakes she iced half of the cupcakes herself as opposed to just helping me a little and putting on the sprinkles. After the plates were handed out, Emily very proudly helped hand out her cupcakes. All her friends were very excited about getting them. The kids started to dig in as the teachers and parents helped hand out the other goodies. While the kids ate, us parents talked some. After Emily was through, she cleaned up her plate and then the two of us went over to the kitchen area to play. We had a great time playing. After we played for a long time, we got her stuff and headed to pick up the little ones from their class.

Bailey's First Night in a toddler bed

On Saturday night, August 9th, we decided that Bailey was ready to move into a toddler bed. She seemed very excited about it and immediately laid down and snuggled with her blanket and duck. We did not hear a peep from her the rest of the night =)

Mom's 60th Birthday

On Tuesday August 5th, Mom turned 60. Since I was in the office, she came to meet me for lunch and then in the evening, her and Dave came over to our house for some cake. When they arrived everyone was excited to see them. We started by lighting the candles on the cake, singing Happy Birthday, and then everyone enjoyed ice cream cake. Except Emily who enjoyed just ice cream. Unlike normal times, Mom really dug in to the cake, with the help of Bailey. Afterwards we all visited.

GMOMC Summer 2008 Party at Pump it Up

On Saturday, August 2, 2008, we went to Pump it Up for the Summer Multiples Club party. John stayed at the house and continued to work on all our outside projects and Ansley was with mom at the Lake. We arrived first since I am the treasurer and wanted to make sure everything was squared away. We were the first party of the day, so I check the girls in, did the final paper work, and then let the girls play in the area up front. Soon, heather Enoch arrived with her kids and the various snacks. Her kids and mine played while she set up the party room. We had more kids filter in in time to watch the safety video. Then they lined up, and we filled back to the first jump room. Not long after we got in to the jump room, several more members and their kids arrived, including the parents of the quints, along with their older child and the 5 babies. Emily immediately headed for the big slide and Bailey say her come down the first time. She then immediately headed for the stairs and wanted me to take her up. We climbed to the top, with Emily right behind us and then the three of us slid to the bottom. They both loved it so much we went over and over. Needless to say I can tell I am not a kid anymore because I was worn out and had several bruises from the kids and jumping =) After about 10 trips, I had to take a break. I visited for just a minute with a couple of the other board members, before Bailey was dieing to go back to the slide. I thought we would get some variety, so we headed to the big enclosed jump ring. Bailey didn't know about going through the little hole to get in, but once we were inside, she loved for me to hold her and jump and then she jumped some holding my hands. Emily soon followed us into the jump ring and also jumped with Bailey and myself, although Bailey would not hold her hands and jump. After that, we headed back to the big slide for several more trips up and down, each time the three of us would slide down together. Then the blew the whistle and the whole group moved over to the second jump room. Emily was off and playing instantly, while Bailey took a drink break. It was hard to contain her long, before she wanted to go back to the big slide in that room. We went a few times, then tried to take a break by getting her on one of the little push cars and a ride on toy. That was short lived before she wanted to head back to jump. All of us then headed in the inflatable that had the balls and basketball goals. Inside we played with Katie, Crayton, Alex, and Ben Lynes and a couple other families. The girls enjoyed it, but it could not compete with the slide, so after a while we headed back tot he slide for a few last times. Fortunately for us parents, they then called us back in to the party room where the kids enjoyed pizza, snacks, cookies, and drinks. The parents has a little, but were mostly keeping up with the kids. Emily was done with her pizza and cookie in a hurry and was ready to go, but Bailey took her sweet time eating. After eating, we went around the room for introductions, since some people are not at a lot of club events, and then headed home.
