Picture of Mange the Mutt

Here is a picture of Mange the Mutt now that he is doing better. Still homely, but has come a long way =)

Mauldin Fest 2008

On Saturday evening, September 20th, we made our way over to Sunset Park for the annual Mauldin Fest. When we arrived, we walked in to the main area, listened to one song by the band, and then the kids were ready to go ride some rides. On our way up to the ticket booth we ran into Heather Enoch from the Multiples Club. We chatted for a second and then got in line to get some tickets. By coincidence, we happen to run in to Kim, Alan, and Helen. We all made our way over to the balloon ride and loaded up. Bailey, Emily, and I were in one balloon. John and Ansley loaded up in another balloon and Allan and Hellen loaded up in another. All the kids had a great time!! After the balloon ride, Emily and John headed off to ride some various rides, while the Walkers, the twins, and I headed to see if we could find a toddler area. Unlike in past years, they did not have a set area set up, but we did see a caterpillar ride that I thought the girls would like. It was only for kids ten and under so I got the little ones strapped in. Kim was hesitant about Helen, but gave in about letting her ride. As it turned out, Bailey decided it was to much separation from me, so she got out and Ansley had to follow Bailey. Therefore, Helen ended up riding by herself. After that ride, we met back up with John and Emily while the Walkers headed home. We made our way down to the grassy area since we heard there was suppose to be a guy who would fly using helium balloons. We got over to the area where he was suppose to launch and got to see him with all the balloons strapped on. It was quite the sight to see. The little ones wanted to walk so Emily and John stayed over where they were going to launch while the little ones and I walked around and made our way towards the stage. That was the highlight for them as they showed the crowd how they could dance =) Emily and John made it over soon and she also iimpressed everyone with her dance skills. After dancing and enjoying some ice cream, we all headed back up to the rides, where Emily enjoyed one of the big slides, while Ansley and Emily both enjoyed the small fairs wheel. Bailey started with them, but was still having separation issues, so she stayed grounded with me =)
Next, Emily and John moved on to some of the rides Emily wanted to go on, while the little ones and I had a great time at the playground. We finished up our lovely evening by walking around to the boots on our way out.

Ansley and Bailey Playing

The girls were so cute playing at the house. They love to give each other huggs and kisses until they are falling on the ground. It was too cute so I thoguht I would get some pics and video.

Bailey did the cutest thing!!

We got the cutest report from school today about Bailey. At nap time she went over to Ansley's cot, rubbed Ansley's back, stroked her hair, and said night night Ansley.

The other funny thing Bailey has been doing is she goes over to Ansley, pulls her hair, and then tells her "not nice". We don't want her to pull Ansley's hair, but it is hysterical to do it and then tell Ansley that she is not nice. It is one of those moments that you try not to laugh as a parent, but it is just too funny =)

For the first time this week, we hear Ansley count to ten. She is now doing it all the time =) Her other big thing right now is she loves to sign Twinkle Twinkle all the time.

UMOMC Fall 2008 Consignment Sale

It is hard to believe, but it was again time for our semi-annual consignment sale for the Multiples Club. It is always a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. Starting Friday morning, September 5th, John and I dropped the girls off at school. When then went to eat breakfast at IHop. We had a nice breakfast and then went to LSI to pick up the trailer since I had a massive amount of stuff to take to the sale. On the way back from LSI, we then ran by the bank in order to get the change for the sale before heading home. When we arrived back at the house, we loaded up all of the stuff for the sale from the garage, the office, and the backyard. I knew it was a lot, but until it was all loaded on the trailer and the back of the truck, I had no idea how much it actually was. We then grabbed a quick drink before heading to the church to meet Leah. Unknown to us, June (Emily's cat) must have climbed on the trailer before we left. John was in front of me on Mauldin Rd and I was following behind him in Daddy's truck (we switched cars since he needed the van to pick up the twins since they were staying the night with him and Katrina while I was at the sale). All of a sudden as we were driving down Mauldin Rd, in front of those strips of business, when I see June jump into the road. I had no idea she had been on there so I was shocked!! I managed to slam on breaks to avoid hitting her, but I was terrified she was hurt or gone. I was able to whip into the business's parking lot, TechGraph, where I thought I say her jump into the sewer or the bushes out front. I called for her for a while and thought I was able to hear her down in the sewer. However, she could not seem to find her way over to me and I could not pick up the sewer grate. I called John, but after trying to find me, his phone died and so he headed to the church. When he arrived, he used Leah's phone to call me back. I really hated to leave, because I thought that if I did not find her right then, I would never find her. However, I just was not having any luck. I then headed up to the church, Augusta Heights Baptist, and met Amy, Leah, and John. We left a vehicle there and then headed back to where the cat jumped. John also tried to lift the grate, but was unable to move it. We called for her, searched, and went in the businesses to ask them to look out for her. Since we were unsuccessful, we headed to the UHaul place to meet Leah and get the truck. I had not been overly attached to the cat since it is truly Emily's cat, but I was fond of her. However, by coincidence the prior day, Emily had a dream that we were getting ride of her cat and had a breakdown at school about it. I had promised her over and over that I was not getting rid of her cat and then the thing manages to sneak on the trailer and jump off on Mauldin Rd. I lead the way to the storage building, followed by John in the UHaul, and Leah in her car. We unloaded all the racks and other sale items from the storage building into the truck and then John and I swung back by the UHaul place on the way back to the church. When we got back to the church, Lisa and a few of the others were there starting to get things set up. We all worked like crazy to get the gym set up before people start checking in. Once all the racks were together and the tables were out, John and I went to the front of the church to hang the signs. After returning from hanging the signs, we were really hot so John ran up to McDonald's to get us drinks. Before we knew it, people were starting to arrive to drop off items. It is always fun to see a lot of people that you only see at the sales twice a year. However I am usually so busy with the treasurer stuff, I don't get to visit with everyone.
Before things got too busy, John started helping me unload the trailer and truck load full of stuff I had brought to the sale. I was still amazed at how much I had cleaned out. After I was done unloading, I took my place back at the front to help check everyone in. Before we knew it, it was 6:00 and we shut the doors for people to no longer drop off items. I quickly scarfed down my McDonald's Emily Volkert so kindly brought me, and then got the cash boxes set up and had Amy watch them while I headed outside to check in everyone that was shopping and give them their name tags. Things ran very smoothly this time and I was back inside with time to spare. Things ran very smoothly, I I was able to get the few of items I really wanted (a stroller for Mom and a couple of chairs). After picking my stuff out, I headed up front to help out and then floated around throughout the night to help where needed. John stayed until the crowds died down. We were exhausted as usual at the end of the night, but still decided we would make our usual outing to Cheers down the road. After we finished at Cheers around 12:15, I headed back to TechGraph with the hope that I would actually find the cat. I was really in luck!! I got out and called her a couple of times, thought I say something in the bushes and walked over to what turned out to be a bag. I was so disappointed and about to leave when I called again. She then came running to me. I had never been so excited to see the cat in my life!!!! We headed home and I even work up John to tell him. Normally I would not, but I figured he would want to know. Normally I do not let her sleep with me, but that night was an exception.

The next morning, I got up and made my way to the church by 7:30. As usual we already had a line. The morning was very busy. I ran a register and it was non stop the whole time. Later in the morning, Kim made it by. She really found a lot of stuff for Helen. Around 11:30, Melissa also made it by with Addison. By 12, we closed down the floor, and the break down crew started splitting out the clothing and then breaking down the racks. I was amazed at how much I still had, but it was really not much compared to what I brought. I picked through to get a couple of the boutique outfits, but set the other things on to Safe Harbor. Amy and I then finished counting the money and I headed to the bank before going to get the kids. It was a great sale!!!

It even turns out that I was the top seller at $1,239.
